EXCEPTIONAL OMEGA GENEVE RACING CALENDAR AUTOMATIC CAL.565 DATED 1971 WATCH
This beautiful, legendary Omega Genève Racing Calendar Automatic watch has a matte black dial and orange seconds hand. It has been fully serviced on 7th May 2026 and is keeping excellent time. This model is a desirable sport racing-inspired variant. The Genève model was launched in 1953 to pay homage to the Canton of Geneva. It became so successful that in 1970, this line of watches represented 60% of Omega’s production. Sadly, it was withdrawn in 1979 and is no longer produced. Omega's calibre 565 movement is one of the last superior 500 series movements used before Omega began trying to reduce its costs. This was arguably the finest mass-produced automatic movement from that era. Designed by the talented Marc Colomb, it effectively represents a distillation of all the knowledge that Omega accumulated in the area of self-winding movement technology in the post-war period. Omega Watch Co, Swiss” is signed on the rotor. The rotor bridge features the wording “Twenty Four 24 Jewels”, while the calibre number 565 is stamped on the plate. Over 5.5 million pieces of this calibre family were produced. The watch measures 34.5mm in diameter without the crown and 40.5mm lug to lug. The caseback has a reference No. 166.041. The first three digits stand for: 1 - Gent’s watch, 6 – Self-winding centre second, and 6 – Water Resistant Calendar. The case has been made by Louis Lang. In common with IWC, Rolex, Jaeger LeCoultre and its other close competitors, Omega was not a manufacturer of watch cases and instead purchased these from a small network of third-party suppliers that specialised in this field. The case is tonneau-shaped and made of stainless steel. The glass is an acrylic crystal typical for the era. The expertly refinished matte black dial is in excellent condition and has the heavy applied hour markers with prominent silver-white faceted reliefs and the original Omega Orange Racing seconds hand. The original bold Omega Pencil hands are white, giving the watch incredible legibility. The crown is original and has an Omega logo. The new best quality black leather strap with red stitching complements the look. This watch will come in a new presentation box. We give the future owner a 3-month warranty for peace of mind. Please study the pictures carefully, as these are at great magnification and show all the imperfections that are naturally present on any second-hand watches.
